Skill-Based Matchmaking #

🧪 This is a beta feature and is only available to a limited audience.

Skill-based matchmaking allows you and your players to lean back during team drafting. With the click of a button, you as the host can trigger the automatic matchmaking.

How does it work? #

The host player can trigger automatic matchmaking on the web lobby, using the Auto Balance button when the lobby’s draft mode is set to skill-based matchmaking.

Caution: Making manual adjustments to the teams when using automatic matchmaking will lead to substantial imbalances.

The matchmaker uses each player’s pugs-internal matchmaking rating within the current lobby to create statistically fair matches. The data used for this is obtained from the match history, so the host player must ensure to correctly end each match on the web lobby, immediately after a match has ended in game.

Data accuracy #

It takes around 46 games for mmr to fully reflect a player’s skill. However, participating in controlled environments like pick-up games can offer a more equitable matchmaking experience with fewer games played.
